27th Saengerfest in Vancouver: 23 - 26 June 2011

Open letter to the Seniors and former members of the Vancouver Swiss Choir

Dear former Choir members and Seniors,

In this open letter we hope to reach you all. Over the past number of years we had the opportunity to meet some of you at various functions of the Swiss Society. However, unfortunately many of our Swiss Pioneers we do not know and never had the pleasure to meet. We are attempting to remedy this in the near future through a special recognition event for our seniors sometimes in the coming fall.

In the meantime we sincerely hope that you will participate in our 27th Saengerfest. Many hold cherished memories of the 17th Saengerfest of 1981. We looked at the Choir pictures in the 1981 Souvenir Book: what an impressive beautiful group it was! While we have not quite reached the number of singers you had then, we can report that our Vancouver Swiss Choir has presently 33 members and is always open for new members.
To participate in some of the events of the Saengerfest is very important! The Grand Concert of the Mass Chorus at the Chan Center at UBC on Friday, June 24, will feature a 280 member Chorus combining 13 Choirs from the USA and Canada, the Guest Choir Jodelklub Niederunrnen from Switzerland, Soloists and Kim's Modi Schwyzerörgeli Kapelle from Korea. By supporting our musical Swiss Heritage you will leave behind a mark for future generations and we thank you for this generous gesture.

We would love to welcome you all at the Saengerfest. Thank you for setting time aside for this special event: Thursday, June 23rd to Sunday, June 26th at UBC.

If you need help in getting a ticket for the Grand Concert or accommodation at UBC or a ride or want to buy individual tickets or a Festival Badge, please contact Christel Eigenmann at 604 931-3001 or christeleigenmann@saengerfest2011.info or Riccarda Willi 604 913-2321 riccawilli@gmail.com
With warm wishes,
Rolf Brulhart, President Saengerfest 2011
Marie-Louise Hanna, President Vancouver Swiss Choir

21.05.2010: Looking for Swiss immigrants (1960)

On April 10, 1960 I arrived in Montreal on CUNARD LINES' SAXONIA along with about ten other Swiss immigrants. Some of us kept in touch at first but eventually we went our separate ways. Now, 50 years later, I think it would be nice to "get together" again by means of the internet in order to trace back the routes our lives have taken since our arrival 50 years ago.
If you are one of these persons, please contact me at the following address: roger.ruppanner@umontreal.ca and I will follow-up on it
Kind regards; R.R.
